Sequoia Scientific, Inc. announces the availability of a new laboratory particle size analyzer. Using the same small-angle laser scattering principle embodied in the LISST-1 00 and LISST-ST instruments, this instrument obtains the Particle Size Distribution, Total Particle Area and Volume Concentrations and, from their ratio, the Sauter Mean diameter (SMD).

The LISST-LAB is a derivative of the LISST-1 00 and all principle specifications of the LISST-1 00 apply. The LISST instruments use the widely accepted principle of small-angle laser scattering to obtain the particle size distribution. This technique is widely used for laboratory particle size analyzers. A unique characteristic of the LISST-LAB is that it incorporates a stirred scattering chamber that is capable of keeping the largest particles suspended. This chamber is also equipped with a provision for pumping water samples through, as might be desirable in process monitoring. Though not submersible like the LISST-1 00, the LISST-LAB has been designed to be compact and portable such that it can be used where the measurements need to be made - in the laboratory, on the manufacturing line, or in a small boat. The built-in datalogging computer can be used to take unattended measurements over an extended period of time. The data can then be downloaded on to a PC for processing.

The LISST-LAB includes Windows software for use in acquiring and processing the data. Communication between the instrument and PC is via an RS-232C serial port.
