Ripper -
Net Downward PAR Irradiance &
Fluorescence
The Ripper –
PAR & Fluorescence Profiler is a rugged instrument
for measuring profiles of upward cosine PAR, downward cosine PAR, fluorescence, turbidity &
temperature. The
Ripper is
the perfect instrument for making decisions about the depths where to sample
water.
The Ripper Underwater Unit includes
two cosine PAR sensors, a
fluorometer & turbidimeter with temperature compensation and a high-accuracy
strain gauge pressure sensor. The
Ripper Underwater Unit can operate autonomously or connected to the
Ripper Deck
Unit. When powered on the
Ripper Underwater Unit automatically
begins to record measurements from the sensors in the non-volatile internal
memory, and transmits the data stream to the sea-cable connector.
In Profiling Mode, the Ripper Deck Unit matches the real-time PAR data from the Underwater Unit and from the
surface reference PAR sensor. The time-tagged data are recorded in the
non-volatile internal memory and transmitted via an RS-232 serial interface
allowing real-time data display on an external computer.
In Navigation Mode, the Ripper
Deck Unit records data from the surface reference PAR sensor with their GPS
position and time-tag. The RS-232 serial input port allows to match and record
additional data from a shipboard thermosalinograph or a Turner Designs Scufa
fluorometer.
